On October 19, Bitcoin is trading around 82,500-82,800 dollars. The price has been moving in a narrow range for a week, and the market increasingly talks about a coiled spring about to release.
The reason for this talk is the Bollinger Bands on the daily chart. They have tightened to their narrowest level in several years.
Over the past week, Bitcoin moved roughly between 80,000 and 84,000 dollars: on the inflation release on October 14 it dropped to 80,150, and by the weekend it was back above 82 thousand.
A week earlier, the price dipped below 80 thousand, and so far the market has failed to break above the top of the range.
Metric | Value |
Price on October 19 | around 82,500-82,800 dollars |
Range over the last week | roughly 80,000-84,000 |
A week earlier | dipped below 80,000 |
Fear and Greed Index | around 53 in mid-October, neutral zone |
Next key event | Fed meeting on October 27-28 |
Bollinger Bands are built around a moving average. When the price swings around, they spread apart, and when it freezes, they narrow.
Narrow bands mean volatility has dropped to a minimum. From what we see, a strong squeeze is most often followed by a sharp move, but the bands do not tell you the direction in advance.
The nearest possible trigger for a breakout from the range is the Fed meeting on October 27-28. The market sees it as the main event of the end of the month.
Sentiment, meanwhile, is even. The Fear and Greed Index stood at around 53 in mid-October: neither panic nor euphoria.
Directional traders are mostly waiting for a breakout right now.
Neutral strategies do not have to wait. Funding trades and cross-exchange gaps work in a flat market too, because they earn not on price direction but on the difference between venues.
In our view, a calm market is a convenient moment to fine-tune trades without rushing and to check fees and withdrawal limits.
When the price breaks out of a range, exchanges react at different speeds, and spreads between them widen.
We believe that in such periods the winner is not the one who guessed the direction, but the one who was ready for either.
At the moment of a breakout, exchanges diverge within seconds, and you can only spot the spread widening by comparing all venues at once. Our arbitrage screener keeps dozens of venues in one window, refreshes quotes every second and shows each gap together with the volume actually behind it. The spread calculator helps you check what survives fees, network costs and slippage at your size. The bot is fully manual. It never connects to your exchange API keys.

1. Why is Bitcoin standing still?
The price has held in a range of roughly 80,000-84,000 dollars for a week. The market is waiting for a trigger, and the nearest one is the Fed meeting on October 27-28.
2. What does a Bollinger Band squeeze on Bitcoin mean?
Volatility has dropped to a minimum. On the daily chart, the bands are now the narrowest in several years, and such a squeeze is usually followed by a strong move.
3. Where will Bitcoin go after the squeeze?
The bands do not show direction. A breakout is possible either way, so for an arbitrage trader it is more useful to prepare for wider spreads.
4. Which strategies work in a flat market?
Neutral ones: funding trades and cross-exchange gaps. They do not depend on price direction, but they require accounting for fees and keeping leverage low.
Bitcoin is holding around 82,500-82,800 dollars, and the Bollinger Bands on the daily chart are the narrowest in several years. The market is calm and waiting for the Fed on October 27-28.
For an arbitrage trader, it is a good time: neutral trades work in a flat market too. And it is worth preparing for the breakout in advance - capital on several exchanges, low leverage and a pre-calculated spread threshold.
