Crypto is moving ever more confidently into regulated markets. Kalshi Prime clients can now borrow against Bitcoin, Ether and eligible stablecoins held at BitGo.
The funds received can be used as margin for futures on Kalshi. The coins stay with the custodian, and the trader gets money to trade with.
Rates, limits and collateral liquidation terms were not disclosed in the announcement. It is too early to judge the cost of such a loan.
Kalshi is not the only example. In Korea, Jeonbuk Bank also issues loans against Bitcoin, and such stories are appearing more and more often.
We believe this is a good sign for the industry. Crypto is no longer just an asset you can buy or sell; it is becoming full-fledged collateral at banks and regulated venues.
The main advantage is that you do not have to sell coins to get margin. A long-term position in Bitcoin or Ether stays in place, and money to work with appears against it.
Selling for margin means locking in the result, possible tax consequences and the risk of not buying back in time. A loan removes this problem, albeit at the cost of interest.
In our view, for those who hold crypto for years and trade at the same time, this setup is more convenient than splitting the portfolio in two.
A loan against a volatile asset has an obvious weakness. If Bitcoin or Ether drops sharply, the value of the collateral falls, and the lender may demand a top-up or sell part of the coins.
From what we see, the most painful situations arise when leveraged futures positions are open in the same direction as the collateral. Then a single price move hits two positions at once.
If the loan goes toward futures margin, it helps to see right away where funding and perp prices are better: the screener gathers exchanges in one window. Our arbitrage screener keeps dozens of venues in one window, refreshes quotes every second and shows each gap together with the volume actually behind it. The spread calculator helps you check what survives fees, network costs and slippage at your size. The bot is fully manual. It never connects to your exchange API keys.

The main risk is a drop in the collateral's price. The lender may demand a top-up or sell part of the coins, and the loan interest reduces the trading result.
Kalshi Prime opens loans against Bitcoin, Ether and stablecoins held at BitGo and lets clients use the money as margin for futures. It is another step toward crypto serving as full-fledged collateral.
For a trader, the main advantage is not having to sell coins for margin. The flip side is dependence on the collateral's price, so leverage and loan size are best calculated with a buffer.
